Please note:  All steps of our Adoption Process MUST be completed before any rescues can be adopted.  Adoption Fee is $375, which is tax deductible.

Step 1:  Your Application.  We cannot move forward without an adoption application, so please submit one by email, fax or USPS to: email:  fax: 972-530-4567 Mail To: TIGR’s ME Saluki Rescue, PO Box 270362 Flower Mound, TX.  75037-0362

Applications can be downloaded from above under this tab “Adoption and Foster Applications”

Step 2:  Reference Checks.  We do call references, including your current veterinarian

Step 3:  Phone Interview.  A TIGR ME Saluki representative will call you to discuss your application, answer any questions you might have about the overall adoption process and Salukis in general.   During the initial interview we try to find out as much as possible about you and other family members living in your home (including your fur kids) so we can get a better idea which Salukis might be the best match for you.

Step 4:  Home Visit.  We will schedule a home visit at a time that is convenient for both the TIGR ME Saluki Representative and the applicant.  We will be inspecting the fencing as well as seeing the overall environment in which the dog would be living.  Depending on who is doing the home visit, and where the Saluki is located that you hope to adopt, will depend on whether a Saluki is brought to your house at that time.  Our volunteers are spread out through the US and the one closest to your area will most likely be the one that visits with you.   All people at the residence must be present at the time of the home visit. (Including children or roommates)

Step 5:  Talking to the Fosters.   Once approved, we will put you directly in contact with the foster for the rescue (s) that seems potentially like a great match for you.  They will be able to tell your more details about the particular Saluki they are fostering as well as share their individual likes and dislikes.  You will be able to ask them questions about their foster.

Step 6:  When you are approved for adoption.   If one of the Salukis we currently have available is a match and you would like to adopt them, we will send a contract for adoption.  If we do not currently have a match, we will let you know when we think we have the right match available.

We retain the right in certain cases to alter the order in which the adoption process is followed.

Important note:  Please try not to get too attached to a specific Saluki you see on the website since that doesn’t always mean that it is the right dog for you and your family.  TIGR ME Saluki volunteers assist you with this process to share more information about the breed in general, as well as each individual Saluki that might be a match for you.

The TIGR ME Saluki Rescue Team understands that the process can be lengthy, however it is effective!    Many of our adoptions are arranged long distance so you do not always have the opportunity to meet the rescue before they are adopted.  Our goal is to make you feel like you know the Saluki you hope to adopt as much as possible even if you have not meet them by sharing everything we know about them with you during the adoption process.

PLEASE NOTE:  A minimum of 6 foot fencing is required for Saluki adoption

While on occasion we will consider out of state adoptions, we always encourage local adoptions or neighboring state adoptions first as it is easier on the human as well as the potential pet.  We do not adopt out of the USA at all.

MESR as a “part” of its adoption process requires all potential adopters to have phone and a home interview.  Home visits sometimes are impossible for us when we have out of state applicants, which is absolutely required.

MESR does let the foster home have a part in the decision making process as well (as they know the foster dog best) and some volunteers are not comfortable sending their dogs out of state.

MESR does not ship/transport/fly any of our foster dogs, so potential adopters are required to come to Texas to meet the dog (two meetings) to see if it is match as well as complete the adoption process.

It is our goal to make sure that each and every dog be matched with the appropriate forever home which is why each step of our adoption process is important.  While on occasion there are returns to MESR, the adopted dog must always come back to MESR and would have to be brought back to Texas.
